I can't believe anyone could rate this higher than a 2. The only reason I didn't give it a 1, I didn't turn it off. It was stupid. The characters were stupid. Don't waste your money.
  • Not a great follow up

I adored the first Top of the Lake series. We even named our dog after Holly Hunter's character. China Girl starts out strong. The first episode is a real stand out and holds a lot of promise. Nicole Kidman's role in the first episode was electric. Unfortunately, the show gets a bit tedious after that. There are a lot of coincidences. Many of the characters act stupider than they should. And Nicole Kidman isn't given much to do. The finale, after the long, random, beach scene, has some highlights. I enjoyed how Mary got out of her situation. Puss's character was left with some ambiguity. His restaurant scene was terrific) and later his comic potential is utilized to a great effect. But it was, sadly, too little, too late to feel better about having watched this series.

This was so full of promise great plot and then it turned bizarre. I just thought it turned into a very odd story with characters trying to over act. It started well and by episode 3 I was just sitting there thinking “And the point is????” I waited for it to mold ,connect and become all I hoped....... it failed!!!! Nicole Kidman does not a great series make ...one word Bizarre ???? I wasted hours on this just should have skipped it!!!! Save you money and precious time.

Beautifully shot series, with an amazing cast including great actresses such as Elizabeth Moss, Gwendolyn Christie and the gorgeous Nicole Kidman. The plot could have developed more smoothly and with more intensity. I also think it's mandatory to watch the first season before the second. Also, if you are not in any way a feminist, do not watch this show.

Top of the Lake's first season was excellent and if you haven't seen that, I would definitely recommend it. That being said, season two is a disappointment. Season 2 is a nearly incoherent jumble of errant plot lines and misplaced dialogue.

Edge of my seat throughout, I couldn't stop watching. Best show this year by far, performances across the board were stellar-- layered, compelling and fascinating. Nicole Kidman is transformed, embodies this flawed character, her weakness and strength. She better win everything.
  • Pretty good already.
